MAGA Hails Donald Trump as ‘Peace President’ After India-Pakistan Ceasefire

After India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire following pressure from the United States to ease military tensions, several Make America Great Again (MAGA) allies praised President Donald Trump, with conservative strategist Joey Mannarino calling him a “peace president.”

Why It Matters

The ceasefire, which Trump announced on Truth Social, comes after escalating hostilities and military confrontations between the two neighboring nuclear powers. It follows weeks of clashes, missile and drone strikes across their borders, triggered by a gun massacre of tourists last month that India blames on Pakistan, but the country denies.

During the 2024 presidential campaign, Trump repeatedly pledged to end the Russia-Ukraine war on “day one” of his presidency. Since taking office, his administration has led multiple efforts to secure ceasefires and negotiations in global conflicts, however, Russia’s war in Ukraine has continued.

The administration’s guiding foreign policy principle is “peace through strength.”

What To Know

Trump announced India and Pakistan’s ceasefire on Saturday morning, posting on Truth Social: “After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

Trump’s core supporters applauded Trump’s involvement in the matter on social media.

Conservative commentator Mannarino wrote in a Saturday X, formerly Twitter, post in all capital letters: “The peace president in full effect!”

Others echoed similar sentiments, such as retired U.S. General Mike Flynn, who briefly served as Trump’s national security adviser during his first term, wrote on X: “The PEACE presidency. This is what Americans need more of.”

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a statement on Saturday that over the past two days, he and Vice President JD Vance have “engaged with senior Indian and Pakistani officials, including Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif, External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, and National Security Advisors Ajit Doval and Asim Malik.”

“I am pleased to announce the Governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to start talks on a broad set of issues at a neutral site. We commend Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif on their wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace,” Rubio wrote.

It remains unclear what the terms of the ceasefire agreement entail. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said Saudi Arabia and Turkey helped facilitate the deal.

What People Are Saying

Representative Andy Ogles, a Tennessee Republican, wrote in an X post: “Only a leader with true resolve, like President Trump, could bring nuclear rivals like India and Pakistan to the table. This isn’t diplomacy for show. It’s peace through strength, grounded in moral clarity and backed by American might.”

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Georgia Republican, wrote on X: “Thank you President Trump for once again working to achieve peace.”

Senator Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican, wrote in an X post: “I was very pleased to hear that President Trump—through @SecRubio and @VP Vance—has been able to negotiate a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. This is a very big deal as the world does not need or want a conflict between two major nuclear powers. Equally encouraging is the fact that the parties will be coming together to discuss the sources of the conflict and hopefully find solutions. Well done to President Trump and his team, as well as the leaders of India and Pakistan.”

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif wrote in an X post Saturday: “We thank President Trump for his leadership and proactive role for peace in the region. Pakistan appreciates the United States for facilitating this outcome, which we have accepted in the interest of regional peace and stability.

India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said: “Both sides would stop all fighting and military action on land and in the air and sea with effect from 17:00 Indian standard time today.”

Steven Cheung, assistant to the president and White House director of communications, wrote in an X post: “Donald J. Trump: The Peace President.”

What Happens Next

Rubio said the countries had agreed to start talks on a broad set of issues at a neutral site without specifying where.

Meanwhile, multiple explosions have been reported in the region since the ceasefire was announced, with concerns the truce may have been violated.
