Crossing the finish line after months of training for a first half-marathon is a monumental achievement most runners want captured.
For one woman, though, her request for a video of that moment resulted in a hilarious fail by her boyfriend, who managed to film everything except her actual finish. In a TikTok video, the woman shared the shaky video her boyfriend took, receiving over 980,000 views and over 1,600 comments from incredulous TikTokers.
The clip begins with the woman making her way down the final stretch of a track towards the finish line. “POV: You train for four months to run your first half-marathon and your only request is that your boyfriend get a video of you crossing the finish line and this is what you get,” she captioned the video.

As she gets closer, enthusiastic cheers are heard, including her boyfriend yelling “Let’s go Cerena!” But, just as she nears the finish line, the camera drifts downwards, completely missing the moment she crosses the finish line.
The filming fail proved relatable to many in the comments section. One user shared an almost identical experience from another milestone.
“I asked my mom for a video of my crossing the stage when I graduated college and she perfectly filmed the students before and after me, but got too excited when it was my turn and did exactly this,” they wrote.
Another commenter recounted their own finish line mishap. “I am not an athlete but managed to train and run the Chicago half marathon!” they shared. “Just as I was crossing the finish line, two men stepped in front of men and blocked me out of my own finish line photo.”
Some viewers offered a more generous interpretation of the boyfriend’s camera work, suggesting he was probably caught up in the excitement of the moment.
“He didn’t want to sacrifice not seeing you crossing the finish line!” one person wrote. “He was just looking at you instead of the phone.”
“I’m gonna be honest, having a video is cool, but the most valuable part is the memory of how hard you worked to get there, and the love and support of your boyfriend cheering you on,” another user wrote.
While the majority of reactions were understanding or humorous, the disappointment was palpable for some. One commenter plainly wrote: “Maybe I’m dramatic, but I’d probably break up over this.”
Ultimately, the clip shows that relying on an enthusiastic loved one for footage of a big moment might just not hit the mark despite best intentions.
