One-Eyed Rescue Puppy Finds Forever Home, But There’s an Unexpected Twist

A one-eyed puppy who was abandoned in a ditch has discovered a new lease of life after finding his forever family.

Pablo the pit bull mix was found on March 31 in a ditch with another dog by some locals in Knoxville, Tennessee. The other dog ran away, but Pablo let the couple take him inside and recovered in their home for a few days.

No one claimed him, but the couple and their extended family spread the word about this sweet pup who needed a home. As luck would have it, Andrew and Yolanda Bissel were in a bar on April 2 when they spoke to the family about Pablo. Yolanda Bissel, 31, told Newsweek that they “fell in love once [they] saw him and his one eye.”

The couple wanted another dog, and once they heard about Pablo, it felt so right and they “had absolutely no hesitations.”

Bissel said: “No one knows what happened to Pablo or the other dog. Andrew and I thought maybe they were used as bait dogs, or someone just dumped them both together. We don’t know what happened to the other dog, but I can only hope that he or she is okay.

“He is the perfect fit for our family. He has big puppy energy with an eagerness to please and wants to stay by our side at all times. His little personality comes out the most around our animal pack, and we think it’s because he’s never been without another dog. He is the happiest little guy and will coax the other animals to play any chance he gets. He has the most fun with Stewie, the rabbit,” she continued.

Pablo was taken to the vets shortly after being adopted. He is estimated to be between 6 to 9 weeks old, and received some deworming treatment. While he doesn’t need any medical intervention now, the vet said his eye may need to be removed in the future.

For the most part, Bissel says having one eye doesn’t hold Pablo back.

“He really is like any other dog, and sometimes I forget he only has one eye. He’s a little clumsy and sometimes misses steps if he prances around, or he will occasionally fall over. He’s also scared to be outside when it’s dark, which I think is because of his eyesight,” she told Newsweek.

Bissel shared Pablo’s story in a post on TikTok (@yolisfatpat) which has now gone viral with over 254,700 views and 48,700 likes at the time of writing. The clip shows the one-eyed puppy running around his new home, chasing after other dogs, and playing with Stewie who is a former breeding rabbit.

Pablo certainly isn’t Bissel’s first rescue pet, as she and her husband have also adopted a deaf Blue Heeler named Coco, Benny the Bengal cat, a baby snapping turtle found during the winter (they plan to release him when it gets warmer), and a bass named Bobby Bass Boucher who they “nursed back to health.”

The online reaction is beyond anything the family anticipated, as social media users thanked Bissel for giving Pablo a second chance.

“He’s such an innocent guy who just wants to be loved and deserves happiness. I’m so glad we get to share that. Everyone also loves Stewie and thinks he’s the boss,” Bissel continued.

Pablo’s story has certainly melted hearts online, leading to more than 1,900 comments on TikTok so far.

One comment reads: “Now that’s an interesting pack. That bunny has me laughing, he’s not backing down from Pablo.”

Another person wrote: “I love when animals hit the family lottery!”

While another TikTok user added: “Stop, that baby found heaven!”
